Rosatom expects Namibia to make a positive decision in the coming months on the Wings uranium project in the Omaheke region. Director General Alexey Likhachev described that expectation in a comment published by the company publication Strana Rosatom and reported by Interfax on 4 October.
The project is awaiting a decision
According to Likhachev, active negotiations on developing the project have taken place since the beginning of 2026. He said the required assessments had been prepared and the conclusions submitted to Namibia’s leadership. He linked the transition to implementing a specific project to the expected positive response. The update therefore describes the company’s position and expectations; it does not establish that Namibian authorities have already granted permission to begin uranium production.
The published comment does not identify an exact decision date. The reference to the coming months describes an anticipated period of waiting rather than a fixed date for starting work. It also provides no project budget, planned production volume, employment total or equipment commissioning schedule. Those parameters cannot be inferred from the statement or presented as approved company commitments.
Discussions include additional areas of cooperation
Likhachev noted that Rosatom had been working for several years on a possible presence in Namibia’s uranium industry. He said the country’s interests also included other areas of the corporation’s activities, including scientific research and non-energy applications of nuclear technology. These were identified as topics for cooperation. The report does not disclose separate signed agreements, participating research organisations or dates for launching specific scientific programmes.
