I’m a health editor who tests fitness kits for a living, and naturally, when I heard about lululemon’s new Hike to Swim range, I was intrigued.
The sportswear brand has a following in the fitness world: Not only do Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner and Lucy Hale wear their tights, Meghan Markle is also a fan.
Celebrities aside, I’ve already put a lot of this kit to the test and have included the best leggings, the best running shorts, and the best sports bras in my collections. Why? Because while the price is undoubtedly higher than some of the other options on the high street, the quality is superior and built to last (see what I did there).
Their new concept is simple but clever: a full range designed for walking that dries quickly if you feel like dunking after walking. Wild swimming has grown in popularity in recent years, and while the hike and swim are both exciting separately, together they pack a double whammy.
Think about it – how many times in your life have you been on a hike where, hot and sweaty, you’ve come across a huge body of water only to dip your toes in because you didn’t have the right kit? Been there, done that – which is where this range promises to go. That, plus the added bonus that cold water therapy can help soothe delayed muscle soreness — yes, there are physical and mental benefits to swimming after hours on your feet. .

lululemon ranges from hiking to swimming: “I’m a health editor—that’s what I really thought.”
The collection launched in stores last week and consists of two items – a bra and a pair of panties. They have set up a very extensive walking collection next to it – 31 items! – Covered skirts, jackets and bags, all designed with hiking in mind. Think a lot of lightweight layering and packing systems, fashion-forward colors and aesthetics, and wear-resistant and breathable fabrics, and you’re on the right track.
According to Ben Stubbington, senior vice president of design at lululemon, the brand has been working on the idea for years. “We created a collection of adaptable pieces—convertible, packable, and water-resistant—intended to spend more time outdoors,” he shares.
So, how was it when tested? I wore this kit on a walk in Horsham followed by a river dunk and paddle session and tried out the Hike to Swim Bra and Hike skirt. Initial Thoughts: As always with Lululemon designs, the fit is flattering and outstanding, seamlessly bridging the gap between fashion and sportswear. That, and the kit is also functional – it’s not just about the looks of the kit.
The bra is supportive, high-line and, thanks to its bra properties, wicks away sweat very quickly. I was surprised at how quickly it dried and there was no scratching – key for days when you’re in and out of the water and moving around a lot. I also love the high collar and color blocking – the kit is very 80s.
That said, I recommend going up a size if you prefer a roomier fit and don’t want the bottom half to bunch up. Also note: Remember to apply sunscreen to the cut area on your back.
I also wore the skirt on hikes and it’s very functional – it has multiple hand pockets with different pockets (both cargo and zip) for cards, phone, keys and more. There are also loops on the front of the skirt for carabiners or D-rings. Along with the liner cycling shorts to support you on the trail, I also liked the drawstring waist and high design.
Why am I surprised? Well, I didn’t expect it to dry so quickly, plus I expected that if I walked directly after being in the water it might get ruined in the process. It didn’t, which gets a big yes from me.
The walk-to-swim range is designed to effortlessly support you while you’re out in nature. If you’re an avid hiker, it’s worth the investment. Technically impressive, quick drying, comfortable and attractive – everything you want from Kit Fit. The bra can also be used for workouts like running and high-intensity interval training, and the skirt is stylish enough to wear for cycling or even everyday. I think the kit is a bit versatile.
Note though – the range is only available for eight weeks, so move fast.
