With 2 billion monthly active users and $24 billion in revenue, Instagram has gone from being a place to showcase the memorable and mundane moments of our lives to a marketing tool.

In this app, the more followers a person has, the more reach and influence they have – especially when they’re famous.

Here are the top 10 most followed Nigerian celebrities on Instagram:

Peter Okoye (11.9 million followers)

One half of the musician duo, PSquare, Peter Okoye takes the final spot on the list. Years ago, when the two split up and stopped making music, Peter earned his name apart from his musical successes.

AY (12.4 million followers)

The only comedian on the list, Richard Ayodji Macon or AY, is ninth on the list. AY has been known to sell out comedy events he has hosted in the past. He is also an actor and has acted in twelve films.

Ini Edo (12.7 million followers)

Actress and businessman, Ini Edo, who has starred in over 100 movies since the beginning of her career, has 12.7 million followers. He has also worked with the United Nations in its more humanitarian efforts.

Mercy Johnson (12.9 million followers)

Mercy Johnson is nothing short of Nollywood royalty. He made a name for himself by acting in more than 30 films since the beginning of his career. On Instagram, she shares photos of her beautiful family and the content she creates herself.

Don Jazzy (13.8 million followers)

Dear producer, Don Jazzy’s presence in this list is not surprising to anyone. His knack for finding, managing and mentoring new talent has also earned him a huge following on Twitter and Instagram. He is also known for his generosity, giving whenever he can and promoting the businesses or talents of others. The record producer is also funny and makes and shares skits every now and then.

Wizkid (15 million followers)

Grammy Award-winning artist, Wizkid, is fifth on the list. Since the beginning of his career, Wizkid has steadily grown from a local fan base to a global one. He has also developed good relationships with Drake, Chris Brown and Beyoncé.

Tiwa Savage (15.3 million followers)

Tiwa Savage has been in the music industry for over two decades and was rightfully thrust into the spotlight in 2006 on the UK edition of The X Factor. With five studio albums and EPs and over 100 songs, Tiwa Savage is considered a powerhouse in Afro-beat music. He even received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, the University of Kent.

Nollywood actor Funk Akindele is the third most followed Nigerian on Instagram. However, she has put her acting career on hold and has run for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State, Olajide Adediran. He joined a small but interesting number of actors-turned-politicians.

Yemi Alade (17 million followers)

Yemi Alade has a global fan base of 17 million followers. Yemi Alade, nicknamed “Mama Africa”, is considered one of the greatest artists in Africa.

Davido (24.7 million followers)

Topping the list is rapper and entertainer, Davido. He has been the most popular Nigerian for five consecutive years.
