‘Full-time climate criminals’: A top 10 list of celebrities whose private jets emit the most carbon

Hollywood celebrities have recently taken heat for carbon emissions when they use their private jets for short trips. From Kylie Jenner, Travis Scott, and Oprah Winfrey to Kim Kardashian West, Drake, and Taylor Swift, these celebrities have been called “full-time climate criminals.”

The reaction came after a Twitter account called out Famous jetsRun by University of Central Florida student Jack Sweeney, it has published information on the flight history of Kylie Jenner and other celebrities. The account shows that Kylie spent less than 17 minutes on her jet on a trip that would have been a 40-minute drive.

They also revealed that Kylie Cosmetics owner had other regular flights of less than 15 minutes. Adding fuel to the fire, Kylie had previously posted a picture of herself and her children’s father, Travis Scott, with two private jets behind them, one hers and the other Travis’s. “Do you want mine or yours?” she captioned the Instagram post.

At the time, the post infuriated critics who claimed the mother-of-two was bragging about her score and had no regard for planet Earth. Some complained that they had to make sacrifices to protect the Earth, when celebrities were responsible for half of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with flying.

Kylie Jenner isn’t the only celebrity who has recently faced backlash for taking short private jet trips. Taylor Swift has also been at the center of the issue as she has been accused of having the highest carbon footprint – 8,000 tonnes – by sustainable marketing firm Yard. His plane made 170 flights between January 1 and July 29, 2022, which is about 1,184 times more than the average total annual emissions of a person.

According to the Transport & Environment report, private jets produce 5 to 14 times more pollution than commercial aircraft, emitting two tons of CO2 in just one hour. Greenhouse gas emissions have increased by 31% in recent years, between 2005 and 2019.

Taylor’s team responded to the allegations, insisting that the singer was not responsible for most or all of the trips he took on his jet. A spokesperson told the Guardian: “Jet Taylor is regularly loaned out to other people.

3 – Grammy-winning rapper Jay-Z follows Mayweather with 6,981.

5 – Country singer Blake Shelton.

6 – Steven Spielberg.

7 – Kylie’s sister, Kim Kardashian

8 – Mark Wahlberg

9 – Hollywood icon Oprah Winfrey

10 – Travis Scott, the rapper.
