A new study based on data scraped from celebrity jets puts more famous millionaires and billionaires on blast.
Digital marketing company Yard has ranked the 10 worst carbon dioxide (CO2) emitting celebrities based on how often they use their private jets.
“The data looks at the number of flights each star has made so far, the average flight time, miles and total CO2e since the beginning of the year,” the study says.
Overall, these celebrities have so far emitted an average of 3,376 tons of CO2 for using their private jets in 2022, the data shows.
This is 482 times more than the average annual atmospheric emissions.
For context, it takes a person about a year to produce two tons of CO2 emissions, and a typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 tons of CO2 per year.
Here are the top 10 jetsetting offenders:
10. Travis Scott
Travis Scott, rapper and husband of Kylie Jenner, is the 10th on Yard’s list.
So far, he has produced 3033 tons of carbon dioxide.
The Yard says it knows the list is “not definitive of the biggest offenders,” but it is the worst offenders, based on data from Celebrity Jets.
The company also acknowledges that the data doesn’t necessarily determine whether these celebrities were on all recorded flights, but nonetheless, “the purpose of this study is to highlight the detrimental impact of private jet use.”
9. Oprah Winfrey
The iconic TV presenter’s private jet has made 68 flights so far this year, emitting 3,493 tonnes of CO2.
