Only Cher insulted David Letterman.
Talk shows are a touchstone of the entertainment industry, although some hosts have better relationships with their guests than others.
Here are some examples of some talk show hosts who have perfect relationships with some celebrities, and others who have had, to put it simply, rocky relationships.
Great: Harry Styles is a frequent visitor The Late Show with James Corden And even when Corden had to miss the show due to the birth of his child, he stepped in to host the show. The two have known each other since Styles was 17, after Johanna Deakin, the mother of Styles’ bandmate Louis Tomlinson, asked Corden to look after the boys after they moved to London.
Rocky: David Letterman paid $28,000 for Cher to appear on his show after he had already turned her down four times. In 2017, Cher said she had just racked up a $28,000 hotel bill when Letterman producers called her to appear on the show in 1986. Cher agreed, on the condition that Sara pay the hotel bill. He also explained his previous reluctance to appear on the show, referring to Letterman’s behavior, saying, “He’s very smart and funny, but if he doesn’t like people, he can be very cruel.” Letterman actually pressed him on his previous refusals to appear on the show, and he flat out told him he didn’t want to because he was an idiot.
Excellent: With Bradley Cooper appearing in it The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Several times, there was an appearance where the duo’s laughter was literally infectious. In 2014, Cooper came on the show to talk about his Broadway run in the title role of The Elephant Man. But after donning fake wigs before trying to discuss the play’s more serious nature, Cooper and Fallon couldn’t seem to get through the conversation without laughing.
But Bradley actually returned to the show in 2018 to talk about his film. A star is born. Midway through the interview, Cooper begins to tell a story he knows he doesn’t have time to tell because the show is running into a commercial break. “There’s no rules, man. We love you, dude,” Fallon replies. As Cooper tells the story, he and Fallon burst into laughter again, with Cooper exclaiming, “Here we go again!” Referring to his previous appearance in the program. He laughs and says it happened like this last time!
ROCKY: In 2008, John McCain, the Republican nominee at the time, was going to be in the particle for direct object The Late Show with David Letterman But the show was canceled just 90 minutes before going live, citing the need to get to the airport and back to Washington, D.C. as quickly as possible to help with the unfolding financial crisis. However, Letterman’s producers realized midway through the show that McCain was not actually on his way to the airport, but was preparing for a different interview with Katie Couric.
Letterman mocked McCain for the bit during the show, and it was three weeks before McCain returned to Letterman for a proper interview and apology, saying, “I made a mistake.”
PERFECT: As a host Hot onesSean Evans’ job is to keep his guests on their toes with questions. However, in addition to feeling completely obliterated by the hot wings, most of the guests are also incredibly impressed by Evans’ questions. Here are some sweet moments:
Rocky: While tonight’s show Show host Johnny Carson and actor Bob Hope occasionally share a network, apparently that’s where the similarities stop. tonight’s show Producer Peter Lasalle said, “Johnny admired Hope’s place in show business … but he wasn’t a great admirer of her work.” Lasalle also said that Carson was offended by the liberties Hope took with being on the show, saying, “We get a request and Johnny’s like, ‘Again?’ And I’m like, ‘Are you going to say no to him?’ ?” and he would say, “No. You can’t turn down Bob Hope.”
Carson apparently disliked not only Hope’s work, but also her ability as a guest, with former Carson writer Andrew Nichols saying, “There was nothing spontaneous about Hope. … He was a man who relied on his writers for every issue”.
PERFECT: While the pair apparently became friends on the job Saturday Night LiveSeth Meyers was actually part of John Mulaney’s journey to sobriety as he, along with some other friends, organized an intervention for Mulaney in 2019. Mulani, now sober, is back there. Late Night with Seth Meyers Discussing the incident, he recalls, “So you (Seth) were the first person I saw when I walked through the door that I knew it was an intervention.” At the end of the interview, Mullaney thanked Myers for helping him get sober.
Rocky: Apparently, musician Liam Gallagher and James Corden didn’t even get a chance to meet before Gallagher revealed his distaste. In a 2017 interview with GQ, Gallagher was asked if he would ever perform Carpool Karaoke, a famous piece Late show, to which Gallagher replied: “No, thank you very much… No way, mate.” Gallagher then called Corden a “fat young man” and added, “James Corden is a bunch.”
However, Gallagher showed up later Late show Later that year I actually had a chance to meet Corden. Gallagher later took back his comments in a tweet.
Rocky: This interview was heard all over the world. While Ellen DeGeneres is known for teasing her guests, 50 shades of gray Dakota Johnson star was having none of it after DeGeneres said she hadn’t been invited to Johnson’s birthday party before. Johnson denied this, saying that DeGeneres was indeed invited, and pressed Ellen to ask her producers, who confirmed that she had received an invitation, but was out of town. If you don’t like awkward interactions, here’s a sneak peek.
Johnson later laughed about the exchange with Drew Barrymore.
